Treatment
DIY methods of ground beetle control
While the most effective way to prevent or address a ground beetle infestation is to call in pest control professionals, you can also try these do-it-yourself methods:
- Spray neem oil on your indoor plants to help control the population. You can also spray this on windows and doorways to help prevent them from entering your home.
- Poison them with bait stations or topical solutions from a home supply store.
- Use the natural scent of lavender around your home, which deters ground beetles.
What can you do to prevent ground beetles?
Ground beetles are driven by a search for food, water, and shelter. While it may be impossible to stop every beetle, following some basic guidelines can help prevent an invasion:
- Trim trees, shrubs, and bushes away from the exterior of your home and keep your lawn trimmed.
- Use gap sealant or caulk to seal cracks and openings around windows, doors, and pipes so ground beetles can’t enter your home.
- Remove debris, rotting logs, and lumber from your yard.
- Repair leaks and dry out moist areas in your home.
